Offline due to malfunctioning immune system

I’ve been out cold for a few days, and felt quite bad off for about a week. Got hit with a cold at the beginning of last week and had to stay home from work on Thursday and Friday. Slept most of Thursday and sneezed myself dizzy for most of the Friday. I’m a little better today, or at least well enough to sit on the sofa and blog for a bit. Had to postpone my driving lesson till Tuesday though. Wanted to do it tomorrow instead, but my instructor didn’t have any openings till the beginning of next week.

I did have the opportunity yesterday though, to sit down and watch Barbarella!

It’s just a big massive wonder of 60s design, music and hair and of course, Jane Fonda. I love it! Favoutrite quote: “A good many dramatic situations begin with screaming.”

I have been watching a great deal of Olympic events over the past two weeks and I must say, for being such a small nation (9 million) compared to many of the other countries at the top of the medal table, we’re doing really well! We got out ninth medal yesterday with the gold in the women’s curling final against Canada, and man was that exciting. It was a tie in the 10th end and it could have gone either way up until the last stone of the 11th. And the Swedish men are playing for the curling bronze against Switzerland today. What I’m looking forward to though, is the 50 000 m cross county skiing tomorrow though! I’ve reserved a spot on the sofa and my butt ain’t moving till it’s over.

Will you be my Valentine?

love hearts

I’ve always had a problem with Valentine’s Day, all the usual you know: It’s just a way for card shops to make money; it’s just there to make single people feel miserable; it’s invented by large companies to sell movies and love song collections. All that.

But this weekend I found out that it can be something entirely different. I’m not too fussed about the whole thing. I would have been really happy if Kev had presented me with a rose and a box o’chocolates on the day. But instead he asks me if I can move my weekend driving lesson to another day, and informs me that we might be going somewhere over the weekend. He wouldn’t tell me where, but said that it was somewhere he’d never been either. I was intrigued, but refrained myself from trying to find out too much. I prefer surprises.

So, at 10am on Saturday morning we set off in the car to somewhere. Kev still wouldn’t tell me where. This is where we ended up:

The road to Portpatrick

The ‘B’ on the map is a little town called Portpatrick, and I tell you, it’s the loveliest little place. If I ever get the opportunity to work from home, that’s the kind of place I want to live. I’d have a wee dog and maybe a cat and I’d take long walks along the coast and over the hills. And apart from having a dog and a cat, that’s just what we did. We walked back and fourth across the little town, along the pier and in and out of little shops that looked like they were set up in someone’s front room. Which they probably were. It was lovely, all round. Even the weather was perfect. The sun was out all day and it was much warmer than Glasgow, and generally warmer than I’d expect anywhere up here in February.

Kev had his camera out all day and took some lovely photos (all of the photos in this post in fact, so none of the creds for that goes to me), especially of the sunset on the Saturday evening. We’d followed a little path that went along the shore on top of some cliffs and found a perfect spot where we could sit down on the grass and watch the sun sink down behind Ireland. It was such a clear day that you could see all the way over to the other side of the channel to Bangor. It was beautiful.

We had a lovely dinner at the Waterfront Hotel, we were very lucky to get a table with such short notice! They were just about to put in a few extra tables when we came in and asked. We got our own little corner of the restaurant, which suited us perfectly.

The next day the weather was a bit more grey, but we went out and did some more exploring, found an old castle and some funny birds:

I was exhausted when we got back home, so we just plopped down on the sofa and watched the telly for the rest of the night, with a short break to make food. I’m quite excited about the fact that the winter Olympics have started.  I’m a bit fan of wintry sports of all varieties. Definitely planning to watch the cross country skiing tonight, and maybe get some knitting done while I do it.

He would!

Extreme blog makeover

So what do you think? I think this new theme I found is very refreshing and teal. I’m really pleased, and it didn’t require very much work, but still looks professional and fun, I think. I needed some change. The old theme are still there, saved and ready to come back if I change my mind, but I don’t think I will. The way I reasoned here, when I decided to change, was that I need something to make the blog interesting again, mostly to myself because it’s my interest that’s been lacking. And I also wanted to put more focus on my drawings, which the Flickr widget on the main page will do.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of having a flickr stream showing off my drawings on here before, but I guess there wasn’t ever much room. Really, the only thing I don’t like is the section on the front page called “Favourites”. As you can see it’s all my links, but they’re in alphabetical order rather than in their respective categories, so they’re a bit jumbled, but what the hell, it’s not the end of the world, I suppose.

All in all I really like it. Although I think the short post versions on the front page will take a little getting used to. But not too much, they do look very stylish after all. And here’s a very stylish cat to prove my point. I want one! Give me one, give it now!

I’m so tired

I’m so tired and I’m so glad it’s Friday. I haven’t been sleeping well this week, gone to be far too late in addition to starting work an hour earlier in the mornings. It’s going to be so nice to sleep in, which I almost did today, resulting in me having to get ready in 10 minutes and then almost run to my lift. How I long to pass my driving test so I’ll only have to run as far as my own car! Not long to go now though, I don’t think. I have another lesson tomorrow, and hopefully there’ll only be a few more after that.

But I digress. I wanted to illustrate how tired I am by showing you a picture. I found it here, and it’s by a girl named Jessica Florence.

It just makes me miss my own rats so much! RIP Ester and Kanin!

Mass Effect

Let me tell you peeps, I’m a complete nerd-o when I’m excited about something, and I mean, it’s not like BioWare is holding anything back. I finished Mass Effect last night and I must say I was quite blown away by how gripping the storyline was and how difficult it was to stop playing. Although that shouldn’t really come as a surprise to me, knowing what I’m like and what games like Baldur’s Gate and Dragon Age did to me.

So, needless to say I’m excited about the second one, which just arrived at my desk at work! I ordered it yesterday from a company called “The Game Collection”, cheapest I could find online and with free delivery. I’m so pleasantly surprised by the quick and smooth delivery. I’ll definitely be using them again.

Anyway, I’m a sad, nerdy nerd. I’m sitting here reading the game manual in between calls, staring at the cover, wishing I was at home so I could try it out. I’ll definitely be transferring my character over from the first game as I’ve quite grown to like her over the last couple of weeks.

Space, here I come!
