Dictionary: Sand Worm
Very large wormlike creatures that lives beneath the ground in the desert. They feed mostly on small mammals, but occasionally they kill something bigger. They are blind, but navigates with great precision using their other senses. Their bodies are very sensitive and they can feel vibrations in the ground caused by other creatures from great distances. The tribes living in and around the desert often hunt them for food. They hunt in groups of 5 – 7 men using a technique where they mimic the sound of a running hare on the ground. When the sand worm surfaces to catch the imaginary prey, the hunters throw thick ropes around its body, preventing it from going back underground and then they finish the beast off by putting a spear through its heart.
