Dictionary: The Lower Gate
The Lower Gate is more commonly known as “the gate to hell”, probably because that very accurately describes its function. It is guarded by the angel Uriel, who has been its guardian ever since it was created. A shrine to the guardian has been built on the location of the door, although the shrine has no connection to the door and the people who built it did not know the door was there. It was built to honour the angel Uriel, who, quite logically, had appeared in this area more times than anywhere else.
The door in itself, for those who can and wishes to find it, is tall and dark and bears no decorations or ornaments of any kind. It’s simply a door, and more of an exit than an entrance, which is why Uriel was set to guard it. People very seldom want to gain entrance to hell. The physical location of the door is on the southern continent, in a desolate and barren area. Due to the position and rotation of the earth, this area is almost always shrouded in mists of dusk, or dawn depending on what time of the day you arrive. The nights are long and very dark and because of this it’s always very cold. Not much can grow in these conditions and yet, quite a beautiful garden has been cultivated around the shrine.
